Eight Years in the
Mountains of Benguet
Black Falcon Coffee was born from an extraordinary journey. Michael McFadden, CEO of PhilCana Coffee Company, discovered the viability of Benguet Province, Philippines, to produce world-class specialty coffee β an elevation and climate that rivals the finest growing regions on earth.
Working hand-in-hand with Indigenous Peoples of Benguet, PhilCana built a network of partner farms in some of the most remote mountains in the Philippines. Some partner farmers live in areas where it takes eight hours of walking on foot to reach the road β and more than ten hours to gather just one 35-kilogram sack of coffee cherries, which yields only 12 to 14 kilograms of roasted specialty coffee.
This is not factory coffee. Every bean tells a story of extraordinary human effort, pristine mountain air, volcanic soil, and decades of farming wisdom passed down through generations of Indigenous families.
When COVID-19 struck, PhilCana's Philippine operations paused and McFadden returned to Alberta, Canada. But the mission never stopped. Today, Black Falcon Coffee continues that legacy β bringing the world's finest Philippine specialty coffee to discerning customers worldwide.
